She has sold over 25 million ringtone downloads and over 850,000 physical copies of her 2nd album making it the best selling album by a female solo artist in Japan in 2010.
Kana Nishino, a Cinderella girl winning the audition admired as “1/40000 heavenly voice”, remarkably appeared in the scene in 2008, with her debut single “I”, created in collaboration with an Australian writer NERVO. This sweet pop gem, performing with transparent, girlish voice and a sugar cute appearance matches the glamour of the mainstream pop, and Kana quickly rose to teen idol status, achieving #10 of the “Billboard Japan Top 100”.
Born in 1989, in Mie, Japan, Kana had lived overseas twice already when she was a little child. She then became absorbed into music and its diversity, from Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, to Japanese traditional music, that nurtured her talent of music creation. After the debut, she has gradually expanded her fan base through the following singles “glowly days”, “Style.” (*used as the ending theme of the anime “SOUL EATER”), and “MAKE UP” (*became the theme song to the film “Chocolate Underground”). In September 2008, the superstar artist Cyndi Lauper chose Kana as the opening act to her Japan tour, which was exceptional for a newly singer.
Building up the status, the 5th single “Tookutemo feat.WISE” became a turning point in Kana’s career. The track became a smash hit gaining massive support by the fashion-conscious Shibuya youngsters, who also strongly relate to the growing mobile phone culture. The single sold 500K by digital download, and the following one “Kimini aitaku narukara” also become another mega-hit selling 800K digitally. With much anticipation, Kana’s first album “LOVE one.” launched at #4 on the Oricon chart. The album has already sold more than 200K CD copies, and she has also begun rising to international stardom when the album was released in several Asian countries ? Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc.
Her new single “Motto…” will be released in October, being expected to dominate the leading charts again.
